is it just me or did shonda waste a perfectly good opportunity for bisexual representation with the whole walsh/aiden/michaela storyline? like can the ”i was a horny teen experimenting” trope go away because that just encourages the whole bisexuality is a phase mindset.
WE COULD OF HAD A STEREOTYPE FREE FINE ASS BISEXUAL POC ON PRIME TIME, Y’ALL.
ok nah the idea that terfs and stuff arent feminists is bad because youre pretending that feminists can do no wrong. it doesnt stop them from identifying as feminists. it doesnt stop them from being feminists when you tell them they arent. they are feminists. they are terrible people with a poisonous and disgusting type of feminism, but they are still feminists
It also erases important parts of feminist history in an effort to make the movement look benign and more attractive to new members. For example, feminists not only successfully shut down trans health care and Sandy Stone's involvement with Olivia Records, it is completely forgotten and rarely known outside of trans feminist circles, and with this trans women who were a central part of the feminist community are also erased.
Terfs had and still have a lot of power within feminist spaces, they are still viewed favourably by the media and accademia (shit, even Brennan got a ridiculously positive write up in Forbes just last year, and all she does is run hate sites to harrass trans women), they have that power because they became a huge part of the feminist movement and that’s one of the biggest problems the movement has. Because of the foundation they built in the 70s, to not acknowledge their disgusting campaign does a disservice to the trans women who had their lives threatened and destroyed by this vicious brand of feminism, with this erasure terfs can also pretend that it never happened and that they also fresh with no problematic history, and ultimately this stops it from being dissmantled today.
We can’t ignore that this happened because it is an uncomfortable truth, in order to be better feminists we have to accept that there were terrible people who made our history and not revise it to focus on just the good parts. Feminist history is erased enough as it is, we need to recognise all of it and recognise trans women’s involvement in it.
